We have a few Mississippi Kites that spend the the summer months in the Rio Grande Valley. They like to perch high on a bare cottonwood branch where they can scout for insects. They fly out, catch an insect, fly back to the same branch and eat their catch. They do this over and over again. Often there is an adult and a juvenile making catches from the same branch, but this Kite was alone when I saw it at the end of August. She was doing more perching than hunting when I photographed her.
